Mary Christine Perry was born December 16, 1947 to Frank Joseph Perry (March 21, 1905 — December 9, 1969) and Mary Elizabeth Vilsack (August 20, 1912 — October 20, 1981). Her father was of 3/4 Portuguese and 1/4 Irish descent while her mother was 1/2 English and 1/2 German descent. She is the mother of Katy Perry, David Hudson, and Angela Hudson, and wife of Keith Hudson. She and her husband are both Pentecostal pastors. Her paternal half-brother Frank Joseph Perry, Jr. (August 21, 1930 — August 29, 1995) (from her father's first marriage to Pauline E. Schwab) was a famous film director. Her maternal half brothers are Peter Brace Armstrong and James Darsie Armstrong (from her mother's later marriage to Earl V. Armstrong).
Katy got her stage last name from her mother's maiden name, which is Perry.
